These people threatened me with jail. I had by the time they hung up the phone to pay them over $1500 or they were contacting my local police and I would be arrested. How do I find out if they can legally do this and how do I find out if that is legal in my state?


DO NOT ACCEPT ANYMORE PHONE CALLS! NOT ONE!

Communicate to them through USPS Certified Mail ONLY! A written or typed paper is pure hard evidence. Keep digital copies or hard copies of what you send to them. Record all types of communications you have with them. If you go to court than you will have documents and info to support your case.

If they are a Collection Agency, which it sounds like they are, well they CANNOT threaten to put you in jail or call the police. Right there, they just broke violations of the FCDPA. I would search for Edison Patrick & Associates online using Google or a search engine. Once you find a website or info, look for a current mailing address. After finding the current mailing address, send Edison Patrick & Associates a validation letter. You can find samples of validation letters all over the Internet. Just keep it short and sweet :)
