I am in the payroll dept. at a major company. Often we get calls to verify employment of which I tell them we only do so in writing. Then I will get a fax from them wanting information. Most of the time it is from CA's. Do I have to give this info? I have tried to file 13 the request, only to get "bugged" by them. So then I will only say yes or no if they work for the company.

It is really up to your company policy. When I was working collections doing student loan garnishments, we had to call to verify....some companies did, some didnt. Often if they didnt we we use the automated dialing system to find the debtors name on file....that was enough verification for us.

Not true. It all comes down to company policy.

Another thing....if you work a public job, county, city or state, your salary is public information. You just need to know where to look. Finding out salaries is easy peasy.....used to do it all the time without the payroll debt. Would just call hr to ask what the starting salary was for a certain position....that would be after talking up the switchboard operator or coworker for their postion title. There is always ways around it.

I had a CA fax in a request to my employer, it already had may name and last four of my ss# filled in, they wanted company name, date of hire, salary, position, etc. Guess what it didn't work, it was given to me first and I told them that I would not authorize any of they info to be released. I don't know why they would want it, I live in Texas and they can't garnish my wages anyway.
