I received a call from Encore today for a debt that is not mine. They also called my brother-in-law and left a message on his phone.
My credit report was linked with another person of the same name. She lives in Texas, I live in Utah. I have been getting calls periodically for about 3 years now.
I contacted the credit agencies to clear this up. They said it was taked care of and that any further collections have to verify Social Security Numbers before contacting me. What do I do?
I asked Encore what company they are collecting from and they told me that could not tell me. AARRGGGG. Any help on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Have you added a consumer statement to all 3 of your Credit Reports? Are any of the TX consumers accounts listed on your reports? CA's are notorious for not doing the due diligence when skip tracing consumers with the same name. They don't really even need your SS, just match a name, address or phone number. Encore may send you a dunning letter after their phone call. Respond with a strongly worded full cease communication stating you are not the individual they are seeking, you have never had an account with the company they are collecting for and to try looking in TX and not Utah.
