Looks like Dish Network is selling old accounts--regardless if they are accurate .. Years ago, I fought with DN and a handful of thier collection agencies to prove they were trying to collect a debt that was not mine. The account was mine, however, the disputed charge was incurred roughly a year after I closed the account in 1999. After a long battle and many certified letters, they accepted thier error. I had not heard from anyone on this since 2003. I put this behind me, the charge offs and collection notices, along with all derogatories, were removed from my credit reports. Today, I recieved a call from ERC telling me that they had just acquired my account and I owe XXXX to DN. WTF? Looks like someone is buying junk debt and trying to collect. I probably wouldnt mind if I was actually responsible for the abovementioned debt; but it is not, nor was it ever, mine. Interestingly enough, since the original resolution, I have been a DN customer for the past 6-7 years. I have an active account in good standing and they have never brought this issue up.
Good Luck in your fight. And when you win, good luck in the rematch .. cuz, apparently, there will be one.
If you're past SOL and reporting period, send them a FOAD letter
If you're past SOL and reporting period, send them a FOAD letter. A DV is a waste of time on a time-barred debt. You do have, however, a nice violation if they are threatening to report a 9 year old debt. Call them on it with a nice ITS letter.
