Almost 7 years ago I had an 8,000 loan, it's sort of a long and very personal story, but thanks to my ex, I was in default for almost six months before I even knew it. I have been saving up the past couple of years to raise the funds to file for bankruptcy.
So this morning, completely out of the blue, I check my messages and I have this message from a woman from "Federal Processing" saying they are investigating me for criminal charges for income tax fraud. I panicked and called back immediately and almost right away she brings up this loan and wants me to start making payments on it. I don't even pay taxes because I am disabled and I told her so, and she started berating me for having taken a loan when I am disabled - and bells start going off. Her manner was confrontational and rude from the start and it all - from the person who answered the phone, sounded very unprofessional.
In the middle of the conversation, she tells me that the call is being recorded - to which I informed her that anything I said up to that was was inadmissible in court, since I wasn't informed I was being recorded. She then told me she was going to turn me in to the IRS and ended the call rather abruptly.
I am almost positive this is a case of my loan being sold to a collection agency - but could someone please put my mind at ease? Also, I have a phone number -
202 -266-0064 if that helps.

for one nobody can have you arrested for owing a debt, and that's including student loans.this b*tch broke the law hand over fist.second she bought up the IRS as a scare tactic.report this loser to your local police, and use that number to file AG,AND FTC complaints.then ignore the b*tch.that's it.

Actually, what she said was I would be arrested for not claiming the loan on my taxes - not for having a debt.
One thing she did say was that the charges would be filed with my county, which sounded a little odd to me, since - being an IRS matter, wouldn't that be a federal court matter that would be filed in our state capitol? Also, wouldn't the IRS have contacted me themselves?
I do want to report this person/collection agency. I have never, ever dealt with anything on this level before so I am clueless as to what to do - could someone kind of walk me through it?
Sorry to be such a pain.

The phone number she tells you to call back is 866-431-6986 and she calls from 202-266-0064. She is a junk debt collector and often uses threats of being sued and IRS fraud as a scare tactic. Beware !!!!!!!!
