The only reason i know they are with a CA is because I called the credit card company.
Should I go ahead and send a DV letter to the companies that my debt were sold to or wait until they attempt to contact me?
I am kind of nervous about this because I fear they would file litigation and say "well, we didnt contact him and the only way he could have known about the debt was to contact his OC about said debt and thus acknowledges it"
Are CAs that smart?

I have to disagree with Paul on this rare occasion! I believe it is best to let sleeping dogs lie. This could go past the SOL if not brought to the forefront. I would wait until contact is made before sending a debt validation letter. Who is the collection agency? I may be able to tell you what to expect from them or maybe someone else will.

Oh my gosh, Unifund is underhanded !! I wouldn't contact them until you receive a letter with your mini miranda rights, then you can request validation, just make sure you do it within the 30 day window. I agree with Frog, I am dealing with those Bozo's right now, and they are ruthless, they charge unlawful interest, and will badger you to death, if you let them !!

well, I just find out my wife took it upon herself and track the company down. in the process she signed me up on their website and they are adding over $1000 interest... not to mention that now they KNOW im alive and well and will no doubt begin a relentless assault... :?

When they call you send them a debt validation letter and a cease communication. When they violate the fdcpa which they undoubtedly will, sue them! Better to pay a lawyer and collect money then to pay them.

That is definitely the major thing I am objecting to, is the interest they attempt to charge, not to mention fees ! They are also notorious for sending a copy of a credit card agreement/application that they probably nabbed off the net and present it as evidence lol!
