I received a letter from First National Credit Bureau today regarding a former account with a Credit Union in the amount of around $500. The charges were from overdrafts that the bank charged on a debit card. I was not the one who made the charges, someone else made the charges on the account! The account was closed by the bank sometime in 2005. I live in Georgia. Can they still collect on this account or is there anything i should do in this case?

If I'm not wrong, debts due to overdrafts would fall under open ended accounts and so the SOL would be 4 years on such debts. You are responsible to pay for the overdraft charges, even if someone else has charged your debit card, because you must have given your card details to charge money from your account. I think that you should ask for debt validation first and on getting the debt validated, you can pay off the debt. However, you should first check whether the SOL has expired or not.
