Collection Letter from Hospital and they added Wife to Bill

I have been making $100.00 payments for a Florida Hospital bill (Balance is $4790.00) and today I received a collection letter and they have added my wife's name to the bill, can they do this? She didn't sign anything at hospital so how can they add her name and can this effect her credit?

When you say "they" do you mean the collection agency added the name? Was the letter you received from a 3rd party collector or from the collection department at the hospital? If this was a 3rd party collector please make sure you exercise your rights under the FDCPA.
