My wife got a call from a company called FMS who was collecting on an old Verizon bill! They said they were actually collecting for Palisades Collection. After my wife asked for a statement they had the creditor listed as Palisades and Verizon! Now I have to send two validation letters letters, one to each, as this bill is at least 5 years old and inflated. It must be that Palisades has so much work they have to farm it out or maybe they use others as a safety net! That way they can come back and try again with another company. Once I refer them to my attorney they will move on but it is a pain to write two letters for one bill.

Verizon is the original creditor...Palisades is the company who bought the debt from Verizon. Is it out of SOL? If they can validate, they may see $$$ by you using an attorney.

Soaplady, yes it is out of SOL. I realize that it was purchased by Palisades! I am unclear about your comment about them seeing $$ if I use an attorney! I refer all questionable collections to my attorney! They never contact him however! If there is a debt that feel is my obligation I try to make arrangements to pay it. It is my opinion, and correct me if I am wrong, junk debt buyers want an easy mark. They will avoid legal action unless they feel they have the upper hand. When an attorney is involved they move on to someone else unless there is a definitive case or a great deal of money on the line!
