I have just recieved a debt settlement offer, which Focus Receivables Managment will forgive 70% of the debt. The direction states to enclose the bottom portion of the letter with the settlement amount in the enclosed reply envelope for proper processing. Or to contact them.

The bottom portion of the letter only states the full amount which is $517, and no where in that portion which I am to send to them with my payment does it state the settlement amount of 30% of the $517, anywhere. However, on the top portion it does state "Special Settlement Offer." Just the percentage of what I am to pay but not the actual amount.

I would like to know, what the best way to proceed with making this payment so that I cannot be a victim of them saying that it was a mistake and that I would have to pay in full. I was planning on writing a letter with the "payment stub" and sending them a bank check of the 30% amount of the $517; which would be $155; and get the letter and the check notorized, and send it certified mail.

I do not want to call them, because they will somehow manage to harass me, as I have experienced before, or try to get any of my personal information.. I would just rather be legal and have paper trail.

Please, if anyone knows that the "Special Settlement Offer" is legit, or is it a scam? Is this the best way to approach this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

wait a minute.is this the first you have heard of them?then you send off a DV letter certified mail return receipt.for one yes it is fishy as they should have a figure on the letter, not 50,60,70 percent off of the balance of xxx.send them the letter asap.dp not pay until you get this validated.btw since there is nothing stating that paying this settlement frees you from the rest of the debt.meaning that the letter should include this:once settlement is received you will owe nothing further, and the portion will not be assigned or sold.if it doesn't contain that then the offer is a ruse.
