Several years back I received a payday loan. The company then folded and I had no way of getting in touch with them. A few years later I received a call from a collector threatening to have me arrested from theft. They refused to take any kind of payment plan to repay. I never heard anything else until yesterday from another collector with the same threat. The loan is so old that I dont remember the amount. They gave me a figure of $412.00. But trying to force me to pay $4200.00 for legal and late fees. I told them I would pay them the $412.00, but they refused it. Can you give me some advise?

You are probably dealing with a "junk debt collector."
These people pry on individuals who want to clear up any old debts and will try and to get as much money from you as possible. First of all there is probably nothing legal about it and the legal fees are likely false. If they call again just inform them that they need to send you a validation letter..indicating the original loan amount..who it was with and the date of the loan. If they can't or won't do this..then just keep the number in mind and don't answer their call
or if you need to answer then ask them for their address and mail your request of a validation letter.
There are others on this site that can advise you also and there are helpful form letters you can see for yourself.

Welcome to the Community :D CAn you tell us who the Collection agency is? Also what state you are in, last paymetn, and who the PDL was with? We may be able to give you some more info on this about them.

They are threatening ,nothing more. Don't send them anything or make payment arrangements to pay until you know if this is your debt, the amount is correct,a nd they are legally bound to be able to colllect on this debt!

Hang in there, we are here to answer questions, and guide you through the process..karen
