Hello to anyone who might be able to give me some information.

I was recently denied an application for an apartment and the reason was for a collection found on my credit report.

Apparently this was done in my name this year and this is the first I am hearing about it.

The debt is for 920.00 for a Household Orchard and the collection company listed is Palisades Collection.

I have placed a fraud alert with the credit agencies. But I need information on how to proceed. The apartments tell me they just need a denial letter or information that this was not a debt I incurred. Or info stating that it is fraudelant.

This situation is highly unsettling as I have no credit cards and have had a discharged bankruptcy as of 1995. Applied for a car loan last year and they had stated that I had zero credit. Help please?

thanks,
Chris

If there any type of account number listed for the debt? I would send a written letter to Palisades Collection via certified mail/return receipt requested and state that you recently discovered a collection account on your credit report that you have no knowledge of and have never been contacted about.

Tell them you are writing to request written validation of the debt and want to know who the original creditor is, what the debt is for, when the debt was incurred, and proof that the debt is yours.

They are supposed to send you validation of the debt within 30 days of the date of your letter. That doesn't mean they will do it, though. You can advise the credit bureaus that you have requested validation of this debt with Palisades, you have placed the fraud alert, and I'm assuming you may have also disputed the debt with the credit bureaus? If so, they should remove the item from your reports if the debt is not verified to be yours within 30 days.

Send a DV letter to Palisades requesting them to provide you the documentation regarding:

The name and address of original creditor

The exact amount of money they claim you owe

Explain and show it to you how they have calculated the amount

Copies of any agreement that show that show that you agreed to pay what they are claiming you owe

Whether they have any verification or copy of any judgment if applicable;

Proof that the SOL has not expired on this account

Proof that they are licensed to collect in your state

And last but not the least Palisades have to provide you their license numbers and Registered Agent

Until n unless Palisades provides the proper documentation as requested by you in the validation letter do not pay them anything. they have to first validate it.

And please send the letter via certified mail with a RRR as said by Tiffany

Take care
Nelly
