I hired a furnace company to repair a gasket in a hot water tank, which they did for $500. A few days later it was leaking again. They came back and did the same repair without following standard trouble-shooting methodology, which would call for them to try to determine why the first repair failed immediately. The 2nd repair failed immediately. I thought about it for a bit, and decided that excessive water pressure could cause the problem. Checked with the water company. Sure enough, pressure was very high in my area. Got a plumber in, found the pressure regulator valve had failed. Replaced it. Called a different furnace company, they said "Those tanks have a lifetime warranty." I got a whole new tank for the same price the other company charged for a gasket.

Don't know why that posted suddenly...

I was able to deduct the $500 from Furnace Co. #1 from a fuel oil bill. I have declined to pay them $500 for work not properly completed. They keep billing me, and now they say they're sending it to collection.

Can I countersue or Charge them with filing unowed charges with a collection agency?

What else should I do?

Thanks for your time.

Larry
