Asset Acceptance Garnishment

I found out today that Asset Acceptance has issued a bank garnishment for all of our bank accounts for a credit card debt; they are all frozen. There was a notice left by the sheriff's office. All of our money was in those accounts and now we don't have access to any money at all- not for food or gas, etc. My husband is the sole income provider for our family (including two daughters). They won't make payment arrangements with me; they want the full amount now. Is this legal? How can we survive without access to any money at all?? We are willing to work with them and make payments to pay it off, but they won't work with us at all. What are our options?

What state are you in? Check the state garnishment laws. The collection agencies can legally freeze your checking account after serving the writ of garnishment to the bank. It will be withdrawn only after you have successfully contested the judgment. You can check out the following page to get more information on this issue:
