I got a letter today from the Municipal cout for garnishment of other than personal earnings. It names my bank as having control of money, personal property, or credits. It refers to a judgement back 2007. It says I owe $1442.00. It also states that upon receipt of the notice I am not remove money, property, or credits or I will be contempt of court.

Not sure what to do. Do i need to get an attorney involved. Can the bank put a freeze on my account so I can't get to that money. I don't have anything other than personal earnings with that bank. I do not have the money to pay it either. Should I call the creditor and try to work out something?

Yes, the money would be taken out from your account to satisfy the debt. Therefore, whatever money you have in the account can be taken by the creditor, including your paycheck if it goes directly to the account. You may talk to your employer and stop the payment from going to the account.

That is what they are going to do.

Once the judgement is in effect there is very little that you can do about it.
