On June 13, 2011 I received a call from a person claiming to represent GE/Money regarding a Dillards account. First of all he did not give me his name nor did he tell me what company he was working for. He only stated that his company was retained by GE/Money Dillards. I told him that I would be willing to settle but I was disputing the balance so we could not come to an agreement. Being suspicious of the call I called back and found out the person I spoke to was a Mr. Lopez from Asset Recovery Solutions and that the GE/Money account was sold to a Asset Acceptance.

Anyways I'm wondering if Asset Recovery Solutions broke any laws by stating that they represented GE/Money, not giving me a name and not telling me their company name. I have the conversation recorded and Mr. Lopez even gave me permission to record. (I live in California:???:)

The collector should have revealed his identity. Anyway, now that you know his name, you should make a written request to validate the debt. You need to be sure whether or not the account is really with Asset collection agency. Once the debt is validated, you can arrange a suitable repayment plan with the collection agency.
