This account is already 5 going on 6 years old. In order to better assist you I would like you to answer the following questions if you could please.
1. What type of debt is it?
2. When was the last time a payment was made on this
debt?
3. What state does your father reside in?

Another question--
Who was originally on this debt, you, your father, or both?
Thus far, it would appear that this CA may be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, depending on the answers to these questions from you. I can tell you right off the bat that they are not allowed, by federal law, to threaten to sue you within a week unless they actually plan on doing it. And this is a very common tactic used by CA's--to try to scare you into paying now, before you have a chance to review your rights and the laws.
If I recall correctly, this is a CA thats from the Buffalo, NY area, and I dont think we have found even one CA from that area that follows the law. Here is an address for you:
GENESEE VALLEY ASSOCIATES, INC.
333 METRO PARK
STE F203
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, 14623-263
Now, they are calling both you and your dad. The only way that this would be legal is if both of you were on the credit agreement for this debt. If not, then one of you is a "third party", and the law says they can only contact a third party to try to locate the debtor. Well, they have obviously located both of you, so no third party calls would be necessary at that point. Once you get back to us with answers to the questions we asked, we can provide much better answers for you.

I believe that the original debt was some furniture that they got thru Citibank. I think that they last time they might have paid on it would 98 or 99. That is what my memory recalls because I was still in high school when they bought the furniture. My dad lives in Texas and that is where they original got the credit for it. I have never been on the account, it is my mom and dad's account. I had nothing to do with it. From what I understand, they don't need to be calling me at all.
Thanks you guys for your advice.

They need to send a debt validation letter to Genesee and have them prove that the debt is not beyond the statute of limitations and also show how they came up with the amount owed and prove the they are legally allowed to collect that debt. I would not worry about them filing a suit.
