anyone hear of halstad collections. and when someone buys a debt. how much if

IMO you need to check the loan contract you have. Third party collectors are often not allowed to add charges/collection fees to the collectible amount.
You may send a debt validation letter to them requesting confirmation on the debt amount and charges.
