Hi.
Have you kept receipts of your payments?
If not, did you pay by check or money order? Obviously you can easily get copies of cleared checks from the bank. If you bought money orders from either your bank or the post office you can also get proof that those were cashed, and by whom.
If you can't come up with proof of payments, it'll be your word against theirs, and I doubt you would come up the winner there. Hopefully you can find some sort of receipt.
I agree with finsfan, get your proof together and put it back in
I agree with finsfan, get your proof together and put it back in their face! If you wrote checks, you can easily get copies through your bank or credit union, if you used money orders then you should have the stubs to use as proof..and if you used cash then you should have receipts from them. Again, I can't stress how important it is to HANG on to receipts. You never know when they may come in handy and you might need them. Even after I pay a debt off, I still hang on to all paper work, _just_in_case. Because at that point, if they come up and say you still owe them and haven't paid, then the proof is on YOU. again, I learned this the hard way. shirley

I hear you Shirley..I lost out on 3 payments last year because I paid in cash and didn't keep the receipts, and at the time it really hurt BAD. I keep receipts for EVERYTHING...You just never know.
And..If you pay online for anything..write down the confirmation number!!!!
Yeah, I hear ya, I got burned like that too....and its bad enoug
Yeah, I hear ya, I got burned like that too....and its bad enough that it happens but its usually when you're already at your worst low and can't afford to throw money down the drain (which is what ends up happening when you can't prove you made the payment).
I'm in a run around right now between my debt consolidation group and wells fargo. I have been going around and around with wells fargo--what a pain they are! my debt consolidation group-freedom point, sent a payment directly to wells fargo with a proposal. wells fargo turned our proposal down because they said there is NO SUCH ACCOUNT OR ACCOUNT NUMBER. they said the account doesn't exist. They sent the proposal back 'denied'. But --get this-- they still KEPT THE CHECK and cashed it!!!! so here we go again--me getting the run around. I have the check number that freedom point provided me with and the date the check was cashed and thats ALL they will do. they will not pursue. wells fargo will NOT respond to any of my letters. I called them, they say theres no such account. so how did they apply the money then??? where did they apply it to if there is no such account. arrgh!!!!! There is a 'such' account because I have a collection agency breathing down my back about this very account. It was sent to them--AFTER my debt consolidation group sent them the money. so yes, I have also wrote the collection agency disputing the balance as they have tacked on an additional $500 to it, plus I am demanding that they find out where that payment went to before I pay out another dime. and we won't even get into the money order that was sent to them months and months ago, that they deny getting but I have proof!!!so people, wells fargo is wacked!
Oh My..I'm sorry Shirley. It's always something, isn't it? K

Keep at 'em.

Shirley,
You are right about Wells Fargo being wacked. They are one of the rudest companies around. They lie to get whatever they want and will screw you over in a heartbeat.
Geez Shirley that wells Fargo thing has been a thorn in your sid
Geez Shirley that wells Fargo thing has been a thorn in your side for quite a while!!! I hate to say it, but I think you now need to take it to another level, and involve their legal department. Obviously what ever division your dealing with has shoddy record keeping admits gonna take someone at the corporate level to step in and research it. You could always get eh name of who ever denied the settlement offer as non existent and have they arrested for theft since they obviously cashed the check (or at least make that statement to them or the legal department). It would be interesting to see how fast they find the account information then.
