I have received a collection letter from this company on behalf of HSBC Beneficial. The letter is asking for full payment of an 11,442.68 balance of a loan I had with them. I had to stop paying this loan or I would lose my health insurance and wouldn't be able to pay ordinary bills. I sent Beneficial 2 settlement offers and contacted them by phone and calls were never returned. Should I send Gerald a debt validation letter and then how should I proceed? I don't want to give them any financial information and would prefer to make any payments with a money order.:confused:

Just as an aside, I tried to look up the 2nd return address on this letter (P.O. Box 1259 Oaks, PA), there are no collection agencies that come up in google under this address or even Malcolm's name in this area. Who knows where your money would be going to at this location? Any help would be appreciated.
I see they are supposed to include in their letter:

1) the amount of the debt;

(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;

(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;

(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and

(5) a statement that, upon the consumer's written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor.

The letter I received contained the amount, and the original creditor, but only said efforts will be stopped if I submit full amount of payment with the bottom of the letter.
