Bank collection (Huntington/CCB)

Late last year, my bank account was closed and sent to collections. I was contacted by a collection agency, but when I sent a debt validation letter I never heard from them again! I have now been contacted by a collection agency for the exact amount my checking acount was in the hole when it was closed. While I know the debt is mine, I plan again to to send a debt validation letter to ensure that they are legally able to collect on this account. I'm not trying to get out of paying the debt, but I've heard too many stories about paying debt to collectors not authorized to collect and then still owing the original debt. That scares me! The account has been sent to: CCB in Springfiled, IL. I cannot pay the full amount at one time. Once I send the debt validation letter, what can I expect?
