i have recently joined a debt relief program where i pay a fixed monthly payment that gets added to a fund and they negotiate a settlement with my creditors. i am about 3 months behind on a 21000 dollar credit card and it was turned over to i c system collection agency. i am 3 months in the program and waiting for something to happen. i.c system calls me a few times a day asking me to get out of the program and pay them instead, but i tell them i have 3 other creditors and can't pay all of them. the lady at i.c systems tells me then to file bankruptcy , saying it would be better for me, i tell her i'm in this program to avoid bancrupcy, but she says if i continue in the program i will be sued for the money. does anyone have any advice about dealing with this while in the debt relief program and what will happen to me . my debt relief program tells me to stay with it.

This is a common pressure tactics used by the collection agencies. Inform your debt relief company about this harassment.

Let me tell you that you can be sued by the collection agency while you're in a debt settlement program. In that case contact your settlement company and ask for assistance. A good debt settlement company will try to assist you in this.

I also want to say that you shouldn't ignore the summons. Contact the court clerk and inquire about the summons. If your settlement company doesn't help you then prepare yourself to file an answer with the court within the designated date. If you don't answer the summons then you'll get a default judgment against you. It is better to consult an attorney before answering the summons. Look out for a good attorney in your place.
