Inappropriate Contact

Someone called my 80 year old grandmother and told her that the call was a court office summons, gave her a case number over the phone and left a 1800 number for me to call. I suspect this is a bill collector using a scare tactic. My grandmother contacted me panicked by the incident and information she received and documented. Is this legal???

Bill collectors do use scare tactics in order to recover their money. However, if your grand mother did not owe the debts, then the contact is definitely inappropriate and she may take legal actions against the debt collector.
