This is a debt collector from Ohio, apparently. Some time back, I got a letter from them, in which they stated that they were trying to collect almost $300for some old medical bill. I sent a dispute/DV letter to them. I heard nothing back until today....I got a letter that said:

Quote:
Please find enclosed proof of the debt that you requested. The enclosed itemized statement may or may not reflect recent payments or adjustments made to the account.

The letter came with a 2-page statement from over 9 years ago. The injury was in fact an injury that happened on the job. The statement clearly states that this is a worker's comp issue, and the statement clearly lists the guarantor as the employer I worked for at the time.

So, I called them up today to ask about this. I asked them why they were trying to get me to pay such an old debt that clearly was not my responsibility to pay. The woman on the phone was actually polite, but told me that I was responsible to pay it because I was the guarantor. I brought it to her attention that I was not in fact the guarantor and the statement that they sent me clearly showed this. Its funny---she was able to tell me the date of service, the place of service, the actual specific injury and the notes on the original statement as to exactly what treatment was provided--she said this info word for word exactly as it reads on the statement. But when I pointed out that the old employer was listed as guarantor and that it clearly says "workers comp" on the statement, she said to me "I don't know, I dont have the actual statement available to me". Her original claim that I was the listed guarantor, combined with her obvious knowledge of exactly what the statement said, word for word, tells me that this company isnt interested in honesty--they are only interested in getting paid. When I emphasized to her that the guarantor's position is to guarantee payment if there is any issue with worker's comp, and that they shouldnt be calling me, she said she didnt understand why such a statement was sent to me without anyone raising a red flag about this. I have no doubt that their goal was to send me this statement hoping I didnt know any better. So now, I am told that they need to investigate their own claims of supposed indebtedness.

I tell you, it should be illegal for a CA to contact someone with ANY attempt to collect a debt until they have properly researched it, so that they do not harass people that truly dont owe the debt like this. The lady also messed up, she claimed at first that "you dont owe the original creditor the money anymore, you owe it to us now", but then she said "we are only collecting for the original creditor, this is their show". What a joke. To top it all off, they are not registered to operate in my state, in violation of my state's laws.

since you are in a one party state you recorded that idiocy.if they persist then you are looking at a 1,000.00 payday from them.btw by my scorecard from you.the woman(and i use the term loosely here)talked out of both sides of her mouth on four instances.
