Two collectors-One bill

I mailed out certified DV letters a couple of weeks ago and yesterday I receive two letters back. However, interestingly enough, they were two different collectors, for the same bill, and for different amounts. What do I do?
Let me add though; these two collectors were not included in my letters that I previously mailed out. My guess is that at some point the account was sold so my letter may have been sent to the new collection agency. Do I need to send these two collectors a DV, as well? Are they going to fight this out or will I be in the middle of this? I'm afraid if I pay one, well, the other one will say I owe them.

that happened to me before (but it was before i found this board and i paid one of them... only to have the real debt owner come out of the woodwork years later!)
i agree make them prove it.
