I have a bill with Beneficial. I haven't paid anything in 8 months because my husband wasn't working. He just went back to work. A couple of weeks ago I get a letter from the Law Firm of John P Frye saying the bill was turned over to them. (which I found out the account was bought) In the mean time I sent Beneficial a check for $300 for a payment. Last night I talked to someone from the law firm and he said to stop payment on the check (to late). They wanted like $1800 in order to even agree to do payment and wanted access to my checking account. When I told him I don't have that kind of money and live paycheck to paycheck and WILL NOT give him my account information he started argueing with me about how he is just trying to help but they need my info so they know I'm going to pay. I informed him that I have no idea who he is or who he works for. And will not tell him my account information. They are wanting more than what the bill is and I will not pay that. They told me to go to the bank and take out a loan to pay it or get a loan on my 401K. Which I can't do either. I plan on calling Beneficial tonight to find out whats going on because I haven't heard anything from them. What am I suppose to do here? I feel trapped in a corner and have no idea what to do. Please help! My email is personal info removed - Jason

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!

You have done the correct thing by not revealing your account details to the law firm via phone. Contact Beneficial to find out whether John P Frye is really dealing with your account. It may be the case that the account has been assigned to John P Frye as you haven't made any payments on the bill for so many months. Your bill amount has increased as late payments, interest rates, penalties have been added on the bill. If the account has really been turned over to them, then you need to work out a payment arrangement with them. You can even get help from debt relief firms regarding this issue.
