I am really trying to clean up my credit report. I made alot of mistakes when I was younger and I am paying for it now... Anyway, I feel totally lost with all of this. I have been contacted by the Law Offices of Vincent Cignarelli and they were contacting everyone I know basically. So of course I was scared...I don't want to go to jail. And they were referring to a debt that I knew I had. So I paid it. I paid them $613.25 to be exact. Well I never did receive the letter saying that I satisfied this debt so that I could take the steps to getting this removed from my credit report. So when I tried to call the number I had and the person I spoke with...the number was disconnected. So I googled it and came across all of this. So I don't know what to do now. I have never heard of a statute of limitation and all of this other stuff not to mention the fact that apparently they are totally scam artists. It' s not like I have $600 extra dollars sitting around...I truly wanted to take care of it. Now I am sick at the thought that I paid this and I guess I never should've. I am just the kind of person they are trying to scam I guess. Naive and not very knowledgeable when it comes to credit reports, debts, etc. So here is my question...where can I go to find someone who can help me? I get calls all the time. Got another one today saying I can pay 50% of my original debt and I want to try to pay it but how do I know if it is a scam or legit? I REALLY need help but have no idea where to go to find it. Is there anyone out there who will help with credit issues who aren't trying to screw you in the process? What is the best advice you can give me. Where do I start? Please and thanks!!!!!

Carly

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!

It is unfortunate that you have become a victim of a scam. A lot of innocent consumers are getting victimized by the scammers nowadays. You should have made payment after validating the debt. Now, I don't think you can even trace this company. However, you can register a case in department of consumer affairs in your state.

What is the name of this company? We can research on the company and give you some relevant information. You can also research on the company in the internet. Check the company with BBB. Don't make any payment unless this company sends you a proper validation letter.

You can contact a reputable credit-counseling agency and explain them your situation. They may help you in this regard. You may also consult with an experienced lawyer and get advice from him. You can contact with the collection agency and request them for a validation letter to validate the debt.
