No, they can't come to your house. They won't arrest you...Its annoying, and scary when they threaten you, but they can't do anything like that.
Try to work with them based on the laws of your state and get a debt validation letter. People here have GREAT advice and are very helpful!
Good luck!

Alicia, file your complaints against Legal Mediation with your state and Florida attorney general. I know this company has already done many illegal things in the past. You should not take their harassments and verbal threats. They are doing most of the things against the law.
Send a debt validation letter and a cease and desist letter mentioning that you want to be contacted only be mail. If they try contacting you further after receiving your cease and desist communication request, it will add to one more federal violation. Check your state about recording their phone calls. In most states, you don't have to notify the other party that the call is being recorded. You can use it as proof when filing a legal case and get compensated for the damages.
Without debt validation, if you send any money, you won't know whether it will go towards your account. If they don't have your file, it will be into their pocket. So, just be careful before you send money without a documentation. Instead, deal with the original creditor.

Could you actually sue these people for harassment? It would be funny to sue these people for the amount of money that is owed to them. That would bring smiles to many people.

File a compliant with the FTC. What they are doing is against the law.
the friggin FTC
bdouble, I had a CA calling me 6 days a week for the family who used to have my phone number. Since they would not believe me telling them I was in no way related to those people and they continued to harrass me, I filed a complaint with the FTC. I sent them 30 pages of copies of the letters I had sent to the CA, the Governor, the Attorney General, and so on, quoting the fdcpa and the sections they had violated, advising them I was filing a complaint as their activities were illegal.
I received a letter from the FTC stating, "Thank you for your correspondence. (Then it defines the FDCPA.) Although the FTC staff is not in a position to intervene on your behalf in resolving your problem, we would like to explain some of the provisions of the Act and how you can use it..... then they tell you how Congress passed the bill in 1977 and quote the entire Act (3 pages)."
OBVIOUSLY, they did not even READ my letter nor anything else in the envelope I sent them. So the FTC will do absolutely nothing about this CA that is threatening an innocent person. I guess violation of a federal law is not enough to get them to take action against a CA.
So, I don't know if it is good advice to tell anyone to file with the FTC. It seems they are just another "do-nothing" agency of our government.
Has anyone in this forum or a guest here actually filed a complaint with the FTC and had them take action ???????????

Considering how all our tax dollars are being used on a fake war for fake WMDs and a fake connection with terrorism, I am not surprised the FTC did nothing. They are so cash strapped, their hands are tired. Plus, I am sure a few of these companies make nice slush fund contributions fo the election coffers of many of the current members of Congress and the WH that they are told to ignore our complaints.
You would probably have better luck with your local AG. But that is not saying much. But better than a form letter. If enough contact the AG, they would proably move towards an investigation.
Sorry - I just needed to get liberal for a while.
