I'm getting at least one call a day from different collection agencies for debts that are not associated with me. There have been numerous agencies and I haven't been logging the company names.

One person they are asking for is a former owner my house (they sold it in 2002) and they are doing a reverse lookup on my address to get my phone number. I have repeatedly stated that I do not know who they are and to stop calling my residence. The calls have not yet ceased.

The other person they are asking for I have no idea who they are. My guess is that they either rented my house sometime between 2002-2007, or they had my phone number in the past (I got this number two years ago when I bought the house). I have also repeatedly stated that I do not know this individual and to stop calling. These calls have not ceased either.

What information do I need to collect to pursue legal action against these companies and how do I do that? Or are there any methods I can take to have them stop calling me other than verbally stating on the phone that I don't know the individual they are asking for. (Note: As I am not the person they want, I know no details of the debt, account numbers, or any relevant information that I could use for a Cease and Desist Letter).

Get the name of the company then get the address. If they refuse to give it to you, then when they ask for this person, do not actually say you are them, just say in a hurry, "oh I can't talk this second can I call you right back?" I have done this in just this exact situation and I have gotten the number that way. Then you call and get an address.

Once you have these items be sure you note down who they are trying to contact and then send them a letter, certified mail return receipt and inform them that they are calling you in regards to (whatever name they called for) and that you have time and again told them that you do not know this person yet they still call. Inform them that as of right now, you are telling them to cease all communications with you completely. If they do not comply, then you will sue them.

Then if they still call after they have that letter take them to court, you will have a slam dunk case and a bit of cash for your troubles.
