Do you know me? Do I know you? How many kids mouths do you have to feed? Do you like jail?
First thing is you don't know me and I don't know you or even want to know about you. I have 2 mouths to feed on top of mine. I have never been to jail but I heard it is not pretty. But then again if you like to drop the soap every now and then, then you would like it.
This website is hear for people that need help. 90% of them know they owe the debt but maybe they can't remember or maybe they just don't understand it.
How dare you come on this site and judge people and bash people that you don't even know. There are illegal debt collectors out there. Now maybe you were not aware of that but if you do some searching you will find them. Have you ever read the Fair Debt Colledtion Act? I think you should because there is helpful information on there.
My situtation is a little different. I lost my house in March 2007 because I could not pay the mortgage. Why do you ask? Not because I didn't want to or because I just didn't feel like it. I lost it because my husband lost his job and never got a new one until almost 6 months later. Ok so you are asking yourself why did it take that long to find a job. That's an easy one to answer. The job market SUCKS.
I filed BK but it is a little hard to pay the mortgage and the trustee $1500 a month when one person works part time and the other is only brining in 66 2/3% of unemployment.
Why was I only working part time. Because we couldn't afford to pay a full time babsitter.
Now i don't have to explain my situation to you but I do hope that maybe just maybe you will understand were a lot of people are coming from and what people go through everyday.
I don't think I could sleep at night knowing that I called someone a lowlife or a dead beat just because they don't have the money to pay there bills.
Yes people do tell lies but asure you my story is real and I still struggle everyday and live paycheck to paycheck but I am still able to hold my head up high and thank god that i have my health and family because somedays you just never know.

I admire your courage in posting that. Hopefully, your fortunes will look up soon.
Unfortunately, I rather doubt it'll have much effect on the hateful CA shills that pop up here every now and again. They aren't reading this board to understand the folks they call, or establish a rapport with them. They come here to try to discredit our members' advice, to sow discord in our community, and to build themselves up by hurting others.
Oh well. Now you know part of why I hate the shills so much.

We went thru rough times when my hubby lost his job a year after 9/11. It took him almost 3 years for him to get back to the pre 9/11 job level and income. I am self employed and I could cover food, utilites and the mortgage. However, credit cards defaulted. The CA's hovered like vultures and I dealt with the calls. We tried for awhile to get hardship and when they started the illegal statements, I took action. Recorded calls, handled the ones I could and sent the rest to an attorney. Hubby had 4 card...sad to say that all 4 card hired or sold the debts to bad CA's. We tried to work them them, but since they had to play dirty, so did we. Result....debts all gone, nothing on his reports and we ended up making money.

Been there, done that, too. :(
I had to deal with an unscrupulous CA two years ago, after I lost my job and just about everything I owned I couldn't afford an attorney, so I tried to represent myself pro se when they sued me. It didn't work. Their "attorneys" literally buried me in legal papers, then declared with a sinister silkiness when they got a summary judgment against me that "I had REFUSED to pay" (my hardship letter and settlement offer apparently wound up in one of their bathroom stalls, next to their stack of Forbes' magazines, and toilet paper). Not ONCE did I ever deny owing this debt. But, when you have the backing of corrupt companies like LVNV and have fat-bellied government officials in office (who back them up), and who eat caviar and belch platitudes about "Consumers' Rights", you can basically say and get away with anything you want.

Thanks for sharing this. It helps all of us out there in the same type of situtation realize that we are not alone and we did not get where we are just because we don't want to pay our bills.
I got into the trouble because my husband was in a car accident, coma, had to basically learn everything again, and can not keep a job because he can't follow simple instructions very well. Then, my job cut back on my hours.
We can band together and beat those CA's that feel they need to resort to illegal tactics to make a few bucks. I don't know about anyone else, but I basically ignore these people because I am now armed with the knowledge to fight thanks to this wonderful site.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. It helps to really put a face on who we are. But I am afraid that the trolls who come on here to spout venom are doing the same thing they do on the phone--but they won't get away with it here. They don't care about you or me--but just getting their commission anyway they can.
