There's been some posts about this "company" on here. A quick check of various state regulating boards show's that LVNV, and their host of companies, is mainly owned by RLI Insurance out of Illinois. That's who takes out the bonds in various states. RLI is a publically traded, run of the mill insurance company. You won't find anything about scavenger debt buying and illegal collections practices on their website though.

So Law Student, what does that mean exactly? I have been dealing with them for a year and a half now. Now Weltman, Weinberg, and Reece, a law firm has it. Tried to work payments out-they will settle for 50%, but am scared they will sell the rest of it. They said that AFTER I pay them the 50%, they will send a settled for less than balance, or something like that. I have to call them Monday and let them know- but feel a little unsettled about them re-selling the rest of balance...KAren

Question, it probably depends on who is trying to collect for LVNV and if they think it's worth suing for.

Bossy, it goes to show how insurance companies are profiting of the misfortune of others. This is just one example, companies such as Liberty Mutual and State Farm obtained surety bonds for various other debt buyers. Have you had them properly validate the debt? You are right to be concerned. I would get it all in writing -before- you pay them anything. You're right, you'd never get that "settled for less" letter, and they'd try to come after the other 50%, or sell it to some other junk debt buyer.

Thanks Law Student, and for your PM too! The balance is about 3500.00 and I have been dealing with them for about 1 and a half years-LVNV, I mean. It has passed around to several of their many agencies. Now Resurgent has it again and Has Weltman,Weinberg, and Reece attorneys trying to collect for them!..Thanks again..Karen

A message to all. These scum are nothing but lowlife crooks. I received a call from them about a debt with LVNV Funding. Sound familiar? They said, it was a debt from a Chase credit card and that Resurgent Capital Services had contacted them. They offered me a settlement as well. However; I was not sure whether or not I owed the debt. I knew I had closed a Chase account about three or four years ago, but I could not be sure it was the same one or not and who keeps records that long. I asked them to fax me all of the documentation concerning the account. First I was told I would have to get it from LVNV and I called them, they told me I had to get it from Weltman and I called them and they told me I had to get it from Resurgent and I called them and they told me to get it from Weltman. So I call Weltman back and this time spoke with the person who said he was in charge. He begins to tell me he can offer me better than the 40% I had been offered before. I forgot to mention that a lady called my wife at work about this same account and offered her a 50% settlement. Needless to say this so called top dog offered me a 60% settlement. I once again told him I would be more than happy to pay the debt and settle if he could fax me the documentation. He told me that I had to agree to pay the settlement. I told him I would as soon as the debt was validated. He asked me if I would be paying by check. I told him yes and here is where I get really stupid. (Don't ever do this) He asked me for the name of my bank and and I told him. They he wanted my checking account number and I got smart and thought that was not such a good idea. He told me he would fax it right away. I told him as soon as I got the fax and reviewed the documentation I would contact him and discuss our options. I received the fax about 15 minutes later. The so called documentation for an account that was opened in 1993 was one page and had four lines on it. It had an opening balance and the interest and a payment and the ending balance. That is it. Not long after I received the fax, my bank called (I live in a small town and have banked at the same bank as my father forever, they know me very well) They ask me if I had made arrangements to pay Weltman $2500.00 in a certified check? They had received a phone call and the person from Weltman told them that I had agreed to this. Needless to say my account did not have that amount in it and my bank knew this, so they thought something was up. I told them not to speak to anyone associated with Weltman about me any more. I called Weltman and the top dog starts yelling at me and telling me I owe an additional $500.00 for a bounced check. I told him I had never agreed to pay and he had no right calling my bank and lying to them. I asked if our conversation was recorded and he said no. I them proceeded to tell him to never contact me or anyone else asscociated with me about this account and I hung up. Two days later I get a summons to appear in court. It is from a different law firm representing Weltman. I wrote this law firm and then contacted them by phone, explained what Weltman had done and they quickly dropped the case. I know it was long, but I hope this tells you what you are dealing with. Ask for validation and report them to the FTC and the BBB.
