I am applying for a VA Home Loan and I've been approved. As part of the process the loan officer told me I have a collection account on my Equifax Credit Report from LVNV Funding for roughly $3,500 for a Sears Card. I contacted Sears and gave them the account number that was on my credit report and they stated that account was not in my name or my social and that they have no record of my name or social on any account. They told me LVNV Funding was a debt collection agency. I called LVNV funding and asked them about the debt and they stated is was under my name and social and they had purchased it from Sears. I then disputed that account through them. I also logged on to Equifax and disputed the account through them as well. I also sent a letter to Resurgent Capital asking for verification (which I never received although they say they sent). I've been trying to read through the advice on here but I'm not sure what to do? I need to have this item removed within 30 days in order to close on my house. Is there a good attorney in Houston, TX that I could call to help with this matter?
