A couple months ago I recieved a letter from Mann Bracken stating that they were garnishing my taxes this upcoming season. Then last week they froze my wife's and my joint personal savings account so they can take the money that's in there. I did NOT recieve a notice from them prior to this, and I'm pretty certain that what they are doing is not right. I tried calling them twice, but they are too busy to talk to me, and want me to leave a message. I live in MI and I need to know what legal action I can take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did they get a judgment from you? Did you get a summons to come to court? I'm thinking they can only freeze your accounts if they got a judgment then they can do anything they want without notifying you first. Usually, they won't notify you first because then that gives you a chance to take it out.

I concur to what soaplady said.

Also in order from them to attach your bank accounts they first need to get a judgment in court. Once they have a judgment they then need to go to a payment hearing and try to work out a payment plan with you. They cannot just go into your bank account and take money out, it is an unauthorized transaction.

You need to contact your bank and put a stop to this because that is illegal. If they did take money out, sue them. If they sued you and got a judgment but you where never served then go to the court house and try to get it vacated.
