About a year ago my mother died leaving a few medical bills, which I'm not responsible for per my lawyers? However, every other day I receive calls from collection agencies looking to speak to my mother. I been told not to talk to them and re-asurred I'm not liable for her outstanding bills. This evening a twist I get home and have a message on my answering machine from a "Robert" whose trying to reach an individual who lives across the street from me, but his phone must not be working he wants to kno if someone would be willing to put a note on this door.

This didn't sound right to me, first he knew our number which is unlisted, two our name, he knew which residence he called, then he asked us to call him back at 417-877-1962 an out of state number. I Googled the number and it appears to be connected to a collection agency named M.C. Leasing, in Springfield, MO. He never identified himself as a collection agency nor stated he was from a collection agency. I'm tried of being reminded every other day that my mother is gone. I'm thinking of changing phone numbers.

Hello Roachbalt,

I am really sorry to hear that these blood sucking collection agencies are still spraying salt on your 1 year old wound.
In fact, you are not at all liable to pay off your deceased mother????????s debt. Moreover, the collection agency is violating the federal law by disclosing and discussing debt related facts with you (here 3rd party).

You can send your mother????????s death certificate copy to the collection agency with a CRRR (Certified Return Receipt Requested) and inform them about your mother????????s death through a written document.

Keep in touch

You have been told not to talk them. However have you taken the time to inform them or the OC (doctors and hospitals I would assume)that she is deceased? The CA's are simply doing their job and unless you provide the information to them or the debt holder, the matter cannot be closed. These debts should have been taken care of by the estate if there was one. I realize it is a pain in the butt dealing with this, but changing your number really wont help....you have to resolve the matter cause with time letters and phone calls will find you again.
