I have a valid debt that MCM is collecting. I recieved a letter from them that basically reads "pay 500 now or we'll sue". I called them up requesting documentation showing that they 1) owned the debt and 2) that if I paid the debt they would report it as paid in full. They responded by sending me a offer of 75 percent. Okay sounds good, I can probably pay that, it will be a huge stretch but I might manage it. Problem is the offer expires 6/29. I call them up and tell them that I intend to accept their offer but need 1wk or 2wk extension on the offer. Their response, NO! pay now or die!! My response... well what if I gave you a payment in good faith and you give me an extention. Their response NO!!! pay now or die!! Okay what if I miss the 29th due date? They responded.... the offer will go up 200 extra dollars... what assholes.... I got upset and argued more more and more and finally the lady I have to deal with said.... "no more offers after the 29th, if you miss that deadline we'll request the full amount in full."

Well if that's their additude I'll probably just sit on it until they sue me. Poor woman will never get her commision then..

Anyone have any thoughts?

They more than likely can not prove that they are the legal debt holder and with your requesting of validation they are trying to get sometning out of you.

Send them the DV letter and make them prove that they can collect on it. You don't want to pay them and then have the real owner of the debt show up. Because then you are DOL.

I've read in certain curcimstances if you ask for a DV they'll respond by dragging you through court. My goal is to pay what they origanlly offer, instead they keep upping their offer. Kinda pissing me off. When I request to speak with someone esle or a manager the lady gets more threatening. Why would any company in their right mind not want to be a tat flexible..?

if they respond to the DV by filing a suit.you can request validation during discovery.don't be bullied.send the DV asap.send it certified mail return receipt.
