I received a letter form mcm stating I owe this debt. I had to quit my job due to health reasons two years ago. I have no assets or money. What can I do?

As you've taken the loan, you're liable to pay it off. However, as you're facing severe financial hardship and do not have the money to pay off the dues, then you can inform the creditor about your situation and request him to forgive the dues. But, it will be the sole discretion of the creditor whether or not he will forgive the dues. Moreover, if the lender forgives the dues, you will be liable for paying income tax on it.
