My daughter had a medical bill turned over to CA, is same CA that i've been fighting!
Anyway, she didn't wanna dispute it as she said it WAS indeed her bill. So, i helped her to write a letter to them which they responded with givng her a 25% off original amount. She immediately paid it with USPS money order and sent in a letter to be signed and sent back as paid in full.
Well as of today, this CA is still on her credit report and is still showing the original balance as nothing has been paid on it! Did she mess up by paying these people? ANd where do we go from here to get this updated on her credit report?
Thanks for any help in advance,
Ang

Ang-you didn't say how long ago it had been paid. One that I dealt with said that after they got the payment and it was posted and cleared, it would be taken off. Have you contacted the CA? I would send them a certified letter stating that this was paid in full, but still showing on report, and you expect this to be taken care of with a response, or something to that nature, then if it isn't, contact the credit bureau.Good Luck..KAren :D

Ang,you can try something I have learned from others.Send a debt validation letter certified return receipt mail to them.Once you get card back saying they have it,send a written dispute to credit bureau. This will lock them in on a Fcra dispute. If they verify account with bureau without validing,it is a violation of Fdcpa. If they validate and fail to note dispute on report as disputed by consumer,it is a Fcra violation. You get enough evidence and you can work with them to delete account.

Well cajun, it is showing up on her report as being disputed by consumer! But it shows last update as June 2007 and she paid it back at the beginning of May, guess i'll give it a little more time and see if it's updated as paid???
I tried to get her to make them validate it from beginning but she said she KNEW it was her bill and wanted it paid cuz she's applying for a student loan and didnt' want that to hamper anything but now they're still not showing it as paid and she just mailed in her application to school!
SIGHS!

Ok, as i was pulling all my daughter's stuff together to send over to the bureau, i found some interesting things that made me go hummm.....
Obviously, she did her homework cuz she had sent them a debt validation letter and they ACTUALLY validated her debt! (i'm impressed) They DID indeed have all the paper work from the hospital with the specific charges and her signature on the admit sheet agreeing to pay for services... Now comes the tricky part!
Ok gonna try not to confuse too much....
She's under MY insurance policy but is over 18, actually she's 21, but teh policy itself is in MY name! Do u think that this "same" CA that is charging me for an ER visit, which i don't EVER remember going to, under "my" name could actually be this same bill? It's not the same amount but not far off. And if they were able to validate her bill so well, how come they havent' mine?
Just something that made me go hummmmmmmmmmmm.....
Scratching head in louisiana,

Here is how much hospitals do screw up. In 96 I received a hospital bill in my name for ER treatment my father received over 100 miles from his home. SO I thought I would have me some fun with this bill for him sent in my name as a guarantor. I contacted the hospital, lady got nasty with me and said the bill is valid and my father was in the ER two months earlier. I asked, "How could that be", she said, "He was here and received treatment on that date this is what you owe", I proceeded to tell her that it was NOT POSSIBLE AS MY FATHER HAD BEEN DEAD FOR 3 YEARS! I loved the stammer in her voice. It was priceless.

Here's a better one:
My dad, before he died, got the bill of a friend of his in the mail. His friend, naturally, got my dad's bill. (I think they were both in the same sorter and got stuck in the wrong envelopes...) Anyway, this was before HIPPA. My dad was telling me this and I told him to call and say "I wonder what the Joint Commission and the state would say about this?" He did that and he said that the person on the other line stammered and fell over herself with apologizing so much.
I asked my dad, what if he had had a HIV test or something like that--would he want the whole town knowing? It would've been a lawsuit waiting to happen!

No ks it's not the same hospital with the different acct numbers! But it is the same hosptial for both bills and i really NEVER recall going to the ER for myself. Wouldn't u think i'd remember if i had?
And how is it they can provide SO much info on my daughter yet when i sent 2 DV letters all i got was a form letter? All this confuses the hell outta me!
