A few weeks ago I applied for financial assistance through the 2 hospitals that I have a lot of bills through. I qualified for financial assistance for 100% of all bills from 2005 through today. I received one letter from one of the hospitals listing the account numbers, date of service and amount. Below it says...

"I am pleased to inform you that we have received your application for finacial aid and, upon review, you have qualified for the following assistance:

100% assistance. You do not owe a balance to Samaritan Hospital"

Can I forward a copy of this letter to the CRA's and request that because I am not financially responsible for these bills, please remove them from my report?

I am actually getting a little excited, because 95% of the bad credit on my report are medical bills.

So you just called all the agencies and they removed the bills? Wow, that is awesome. Once I get all the paper work back from the hospital and the Emergency room doctors(they are on the same financial assistance plan as the hospital) all total I will be getting about 27 negative collection accounts off my report. That will only leave me about $2500 to pay and I'm hoping I can negotiate them down. Thank you so much for your response.

The statute of limitations depends on your state, as they all very. Plus I am not 100% sure but I think hospital visits and such are considered open accounts, maybe written contracts if you signed promise to pay notes.

They can attempt to collect forever, but they can't sue you past the SOL and they can't report past the 7.5 years.
