I have a few medical debts that have gone to collections. One was for $92 dollars which I paid last fall. Now the same account on my credit report lists that the $92 was the original amount owed but the current balance is $202. What's up with that? Has the collection agency added fees and interest to this account even though it was paid? And are they allowed to on medical debt?

Does a different name on the collection report come up then who you paid it? i would dispute it with the CRA's if you paid it. And it would depend on the state. I know WI doesn't allow collection agencies to add on fees/interest (unless it goes to judgement.. then they can add the mandatory attorney fee/processor fees)
