I recently reviewed my credit report and it shows a medical collection from 2001, at that time, I was not over 21, was in college, and was still under my mother's insurance. If she did not pay that bill of 245.00, am I now responsible for that since I was the one at the hospital? Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to dispute it or have it removed.

thanks,
Stephanie M.

Hi,
If you were under 18 at the time, you would definately have been a minor and would not have been responsible. If you were between the ages of 18-21 and were covered on your parents' plan, due to being a full-time student, this might change. What you would need to do is have the hospital pull your information that they would have obtained when you were admitted--and go to the financial screen and pull the name of the guarantor (who is paying the bill). If it is your mother and she is showing as the insured, then she would totally be responsible.
Another way to find out: who got the bills after you were admitted? If it was your mom, then it's hers, and vice-versa. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much. I appreciate the quick response. I will do just as you say. I have never actually recvd a bill for it in my name, but it is now on my report. It shows 1st delinquency in 10/2002, I would have turned 18 in march of 2002. I have never personally recvd a bill but I didn't know if I would still be held responsible seeing how they never sent a bill to any of my addresses in my own name.
