Cuny, you might be asking for trouble. Don't pay them a dime unless they put everything in writing in a letter that has their letterhead and signature of a manager. There should be a statement included that they will not sale the balance of the debt to another JDB and that they will notify the CRA's that the debt has been paid. I would go in person. Definatly get everything in writing. The amount of the original loan and the company you owed. The settlement amount and that you are paying this debt to the collection agency now handling the debt. That the debit is PAID IN FULL etc.

See if they have an in house notary, most companies do, and ask that the signature on the paperwork that states all the information is stamped and witnessed by a notary.

Cover every single base you can think of on that paperwork.

oh ok they did ssend this letter offering the settlement with the original amount included and the amount needed to settle. i made a copy of it. but ill ask if they have an inhouse notary.anything extra?

Since you will be there, I would make them type up a settled in full letter for you in exchange for the money order.
