Is your student loan company going to accept just a receipt from you showing that you paid the debt or do they want to see it off of your credit report? If that was the case I would do like you said and pay the debt and then send the letter to credit reporting agency. This is how I would do it, cause I know the importance of having your loans in place before the semester begins/

Midland will have to be the one to remove the items from your credit reports. You can't be sure they will do that even after you pay them. I would make them prove that this is your debt BEFORE paying them a dime!

There's no way that you will get Midland to prove the debt in two weeks so that you can get your student loan. The loan company will probably accept a receipt showing that the debt has been paid. (At least, most other lenders won't require it to actually be off of your credit report; they will accept proof of payment. I'm not sure about student loans.) Unfortunately, even though the debt is not yours, if you can afford to pay it, you might have to do so in order to get your student loan. It stinks though!!
