Midland Credit Management - Advice?

MCM made first contact with me by phone a little over a week ago. I requested they send me a letter, which I received a couple of days ago. I've drafted a debt validation letter to them and will send out today.
They continue to call and annoy me. I told the gentleman who called last night that I would be sending a DV letter. He then told me that it's past the 45 days that I can dispute and that I would have to provide THEM with proof that I didn't owe the debt! What? I told him I only spoke to him a little over a week ago and he then started naming off dates that someone from his company "supposedly" contacted me.
I'm sending the DV anyway but, what the heck? Is this their new tack? If he calls again, I'm thinking of telling him "Fine, if you won't send me proper validation, then you'll have to sue me and provide it during the discovery process!"
Anyone have thoughts?

Send the letter along with a demand to cease communication! If you have an attorney that you work with or have worked with refer them to the attorney! They will drop you like a hot coal. Do not worry! They will not contact the attorney.
