My father recieved a phone call from someone, that identified themselves as calling from midland collections. Send them a DV letter asking them to validate the debt. When you don't owe the debt, they'll not contact you anymore. If they can't validate the debt, then you can send them a Cease and Desist letter stating that you don't owe the debt and should not be contacted for collection anymore.
Also, take out the CR and check whether it's showing in it. If it's there, you'll have to dispute it with the bureaus if the CA can't validate it.
