1099-C - unknown debt

I just received a 1099-C from Midland Funding LLC. I do not know what this debt is for and I don't think I have ever spoken to - or been contacted by - anyone from this company. I don't know who the original creditor is and cannot trace their account number shown on the 1009-C to any accounts I have. Should I call them? Should I write them? How can they send me a 1099-C when I have had no choice to dispute their claim?
