i got a call from a CA trying to collect on an account I've been paying off another CA for over a year. This is for Bank of America. i know i shouldn't be paying two CAs. so BoA referred me to this originial CA i've been paying over a year ago. is it possible BoA referred me again to another CA? if so, does this mean the original CA has paid them nothing toward the claim?

i tried calling BofA but can't get through to a human...voice automation recognized my account but said info was unavailable and disconnected

also, the CA i've been paying does appear on my credit report...ive been paying them through a DMP. This other agency i've never heard from and does not appear on my report. now i'm freaking out that i'm not paying the correct people.

Have you DVed the first CA? And when you entered into a payment arrangement, did you get it in writing? Get the addy of the new CA and send them a DV letter, explain that you are already paying on this account.

Contact the CA you are currently paying and see what the status of your account is at.

okay so i did get a hold of BoA and they seemed to ignore the other CA but did say that Penncro had told them I was using a DMP and that they could bay BoA directly. So i'm going to ask my DMP about this, because i'm not sure how that would effect balances and monthly payments and things such as that.

Help me understand, so your DMP pays Penncro (the CA) which in turn sends payments to BOA?

Or did Penncro sell your account back to BOA as uncollectible. If this is the case BOA could have sold your account to another CA. I have seen this happen in the past. Could be reason for the second CA trying to collect on the same debt.

As goldenbast stated, you need to call Penncro and find out the status of your account. Once you clear that up then I would pay Penncro directly. This way you can get them updated on your credited reports as paid and possibly removed.

As for for the DMP, I have used them and when you remove an account with them the monthly payment will reduce. In my experience I was able to remove and add accounts at any time from my DMP. You can call your DMP and get more information.

anya,

to clarify ... BoA had told me that Penncro was handling my account. Penncro was the creditor I gave my DMP, and they've been paying. When I talked to BoA today, they told me that Penncro told them I was using a DMP and that the DMP could pay them directly. According to my DMP guy, he talked to BoA today and set this all up, and that BoA had my correct balance...so it does seem that now Penncro is out of the picture...at least i would THINK.

It seems at this point that this a lucky break for me, as I will be able to get rid of one CA on my credit report....unless I am missing something?

So you have adjusted your DMP to pay BOA directly. Now as far as getting Penncro of your CB reports, IMO that can be done now that they are no longer collecting on the debt.

When you dispute the CA, there is an option to where you can choose similair to this situation. I would call Equifax personally and speak with a service rep to help you along with the dispute. IMO the other two (Transunion/Experian) have been hard to work with on disputes. :?

Still wondering why BOA ignored the other CA that contacted you. I would send them a DV letter to be safe side and inform them of your arrangement with BOA.
