I have had a Chases cc account turned over to them. I have been avoiding them. I am now in a better position. How are they to deal with? I know they have had complaints in the past. Are they willing to settle for lees than what I owe? Thanks for any help.

First, I would make sure that they own/were assigned the debt. Then I would approach them by saying you are trying to get your life back together after layoff, job loss, illness (whatever your situation) and offer them a specific amount (say 25% of what the balance is) and negotiate from there. They may come back with a counter-offer; you can negotiate lump sum settlement or installments. Before you enter into any payment agreement, make sure you have the settlement letter in hand.
