i am writing in for my daughter as i have told her about this great site and the help i have gotten in the past so she was wondering what to do.
my daughter has excellent credit first of all. she just moved from texas to tennessee. she lived in an apartment in texas and thought when she moved that all apt. expenses were paid up, she made sure of it.
she never received a bill from the apt's etc since she moved 6 mos. ago. all here other mail had/has been correctly forwarded to her-bills, etc.
so the other day she gets the letter from the national cred. sys inc. stating she owes $45 from these apts. she calls the apts. and talks to the manager who tells her it is the last water bill she owes. she tells the mangr. she never received the bill and the mangr. says its not their prob. anymore as its been sold to the ca now.
i have instructed her not to call the ca as i do not think they have her phone #, etc. they might have her ss# since its a new acct? don't know.
her question is should she go ahead and pay by money order, send a val. letter or what? please be specific. shes really p.o'd since they never gave her a chance to pay it-she pays all her bills on time!
thanks for any help
I would pay the $45.00 to avoid the hassle of trying to deal wit
I would pay the $45.00 to avoid the hassle of trying to deal with a CA.

thanks "guest" but you didn't read the post correctly. apt's don't deal with it anymore as they already sold acct. to ca.
I think the guest meant to pay the $45 to the CA to not have to
I think the guest meant to pay the $45 to the CA to not have to deal with them. But I caution, that can backfire! First off, I would DV the CA.....but if you don't want to go through all that hassle over that $45 (and that is understandable) Then simply get an agreement in writing from the CA that once payment is made, that the account is closed at a zero balance. Then only pay them with a cashier's check or a money order..NEVER with your own personal account.
and you mean to get agreement in writing BEFORE payment sent??
and you mean to get agreement in writing BEFORE payment sent?? iif they won't cause we will be dealing with idiots (oops) i am sure that can't get a better job, what then? think its a great idea if they will cooperate. but if not?
yes and as i stated in first post i advised her of same...bank acct, ss# is a big NO NO!
but i am almost ready for her to send the dv letter that i got a while back from jcemt but if they do decide to take her to court over a measly 45 bucks to get a bigger settlement (fees etc) then that will be more trouble than asked for.
any further advice would be greatly appreciated.
