Don't pay them a dime until they validate that debt, you need to
Don't pay them a dime until they validate that debt, you need to know; who they obtained the debt from, how much the debt is, a contract of some sort with your signature on it from the original debt, and proof that they have a legal right to either collect this debt, or they own the debt. Don't give them any personal information about yourself, and don't make any arrangements with them until they validate this debt. Now that they have contacted you, tell them they have 5 days from their initial contact to send you a dunning letter. That's the federal law. I would also advise you to google FDCPA and educate yourself on your rights.
