Question about stopping the calls
Date: Mon, 06/23/2008 - 08:26
I am sending a letter to Nationwide today, to ask them to stop calling me. I've been making steady payments for a year on a debt owed to American express, and I intend to keep making those payments.
When I tell them to stop calling, what will happen next? Will they continue to be the holder of my collection acct or will they pass me on to someone else or tell Amex that I'm not being cooperative?
Thanks in advance!
I can't understand why they feel the need to keep calling you if
I can't understand why they feel the need to keep calling you if you are making payments to them. By sending them a c&d letter should not make them pass it on to another collection agency.
If they do happen to send it to another collector make sure you sent them a debt validation letter so what they say you owe is right.

If American Express still owns your account and has just turned it over to Nationwide to collect on, I would doubt that they will send it somewhere else as long as you are making your regular payments. And I would also doubt that Nationwide would want to send it somewhere else because they receive commissions on the money that you pay through them. So it would be kind of like "cutting off their nose to spite their face"! But you never know! Bill collectors are usually unpredicatable!
